The Classic Sports Sunday event is the part of the Cavallino Classic that is both the most inclusive and exclusive. Where the previous day’s Concoroso is only open to Ferraris, this one is open to all exotic cars. The fact that it is held on Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, also makes this one of the most elite tickets in the county.
A concours event that is open to plenty of marques, but behind very closed doors, creates the opportunity for some extraordinary displays. Aluminum may not be the rarest of metals, but add a little polish, and it turns this classic Aston Martin DB2/4 into a show stopper.
Chassis LML 664 is a 1954 Mk I barn find car that has undergone restoration. But rather than slap a fresh coat of paint on the aluminum bodywork, the current owner reached for a can of polish. Unlike the Ferrari 458 Challenge from last week that was carefully wrapped to get its mirror finish, this Aston was carefully stripped down to get its shine.
The car is going to remain a polished alloy while the owner finishes the restoration and gets it ready for some vintage rallying. There may be some extra work in keeping a classic like this naked, but we will vote for it every day on cool points alone.
