Alfa Romeo Giulietta SUV spy shots

We’ve heard rumors and seen spy shots of a Alfa Romeo Giulietta SUV/crossover for a while now.  It has been spotted in the Detroit area during the winter months presumably for some testing in the cold, and now our reader LONESTAR has sent us a few camera phone shots of summer testing.

What does this all mean? Well, for starters the Giulietta SUV isn’t just in Detroit for the winter weather.  The vehicle in these pictures is being driven on a mild summer day, which means it is under a constant evaluation at Chrysler.  So it would not be hard to assume that either Fiat is giving the SUV development to the Americans, or this is really another car in a heavy disguise.

As we know, the Dodge Dart shares its platform with Giulietta.  Plus, we’ve seen plenty of these five-door Alfas hanging around Chrysler’s headquarters Auburn Hills.  So we may not just be looking at the Giulietta SUV (possibly called the Milanese).  Instead, this could also be the engineers at Chrysler harvesting a Giulietta body to hide a Dart-based SUV.

Either way we can see some extra fender flares and ground clearance from these low-res spy shots.  The body is sitting so much higher than the original car that the exhaust ports cut into the bumper are unnecessary.  So whatever production car spawns from this testing mule, we can expect some new body panels before it is ready for the streets.
