Bentley is hitting the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month with its largest presence ever. Not only will they have cars running up the hill, but also it will be the first time they officially show to the home market the “driver-focused” Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification package as well as the someone-love-me EXP 9F SUV concept.
But that is not what has us excited. The flying B is also promising an international debut of a new supercar. Bentley is not revealing anything more than the new car combines “stunning performance with exquisite luxury in the Bentley tradition.” This lack of information starts our imagination racing about some super-secret barn burner that looks like a jet fighter and coddles like a Ritz-Carlton.
Of course, the idea that Bentley could have developed an all-new supercar without anyone catching wind of it is, unfortunately, preposterous in this age. Instead, now that the new Continental GT has debuted, we are about due to see the Speed version. The last GT Speed bumped the horsepower by 6% over the standard luxury missile. Since new Continental GT still has the same 6.0-liter W-12 engine that makes 567 hp, not only do we expect at least 600 hp out of the next Speed version, but also a healthy diet of lightweight materials.
So the practical side tells us that we’ll see the premiere of Bentley Continental GT Speed on June 29. Still the devil on our shoulder keeps whispering something about a leather-clad Pagani fighter.
